CFIA Rounding Rules for Nutrition Facts Tables
Canadian nutrition labels require specific rounding for every nutrient. Each nutrient has its own threshold bands and rounding increments — there are over 40 individual rules across calories, macronutrients, minerals, and vitamins. Getting even one wrong makes your label non-compliant.
These rules are defined in the Food and Drug Regulations (FDR) and the CFIA Nutrition Facts table guidance. Last verified against the live CFIA website.

Why manual rounding doesn't work
With over 40 individual rounding rules across 16+ nutrients — each with different threshold bands, different precision requirements, and different %DV calculations — manual rounding using a spreadsheet is practically guaranteed to produce errors. A single nutrient like Potassium has 4 rounding bands. Iron has 4. Vitamin A has 4. And each band has a different rounding increment.
This is why tools built for the Canadian market exist — to apply all of these rules automatically and consistently, every time.
Skip the manual rounding
