Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about NutriBoard -- labels, production, traceability, PCP compliance, and Canadian food regulations.

Is the Nutrition Facts table actually CFIA compliant?+

Yes. We follow CFIA Figure 1.1(E) standard bilingual format, use Health Canada's 2022 Daily Values, and apply all FDR Schedule M rounding rules. Many food producers use NutriBoard labels directly on their products.

Where does the nutrition data come from?+

We pull from two official sources: the USDA FoodData Central database (14,000+ ingredients) and Health Canada's Canadian Nutrient File (CNF). You can also enter custom ingredients manually.

Can I use this for products I sell in stores?+

Yes — NutriBoard labels are designed for products you sell in stores, at farmers' markets, and online. The labels follow CFIA regulations and use official Health Canada data. For high-volume production runs, some producers also verify with lab analysis for extra confidence.

Do you support the Front-of-Package (FOP) symbol?+

Yes. NutriBoard automatically calculates whether your product requires the FOP nutrition symbol based on saturated fat, sugars, and sodium thresholds — and shows you which variant to use.

What's the difference between Free and Pro?+

Free lets you try NutriBoard with 1 recipe and a watermarked preview. Pro ($29/mo founding, $49 after) unlocks 30 labels, exports, and production logging with batch costing. Producer ($59/mo founding, $99 after) adds full traceability, recall management, PCP facility, and CFIA templates. Business ($149/mo founding, $199 after) gives you unlimited everything with full CFIA compliance.

Can I cancel anytime?+

Yes. No contracts, no commitments. Cancel your subscription anytime from your account settings.

Do I need a lab analysis to use NutriBoard?+

No. NutriBoard calculates nutrition from ingredient database values, so you can generate a label without lab testing. For commercial products, lab verification is recommended but not required to get started.

Does NutriBoard support bilingual labels?+

Yes. Every Nutrition Facts table is generated in both English and French, as required by Canadian food labelling regulations (FDR B.01.450).

Are the CFIA rounding rules correct?+

Yes. NutriBoard applies all CFIA Schedule M rounding rules automatically. Calories round to the nearest 10, fat to the nearest 0.5g, sodium to the nearest 5mg, and every other nutrient follows the Food and Drug Regulations. Over 130 automated tests verify these rules.

How does production logging work?+

You create a product, then log batches against it. Each batch records which ingredients you used, how much of each, and from which supplier lot. NutriBoard tracks your inventory in real time, sends low stock alerts, and calculates batch cost automatically based on actual ingredient usage.

How does auto batch costing work?+

NutriBoard calculates the cost of each batch dynamically based on actual ingredient usage and your current inventory prices. You get ingredient-level cost accuracy and real-time margins so you know your true cost per unit before you ship.

Does NutriBoard track inventory?+

Yes. NutriBoard provides live inventory tracking across all ingredients. When you log a batch, ingredient stock is deducted automatically. You get low stock alerts so you never run out mid-production, and stock levels update in real time on the production dashboard.

What does the traceability system do?+

NutriBoard connects your entire workflow with full traceability. You can trace forward from raw ingredients to which customer received the finished product, or backward from a customer complaint to exactly which ingredients and supplier lots went into that batch. It covers batch tracking, ingredient tracking, and product movement.

Can I run a mock recall with NutriBoard?+

Yes. NutriBoard lets you run instant mock recalls. Select any batch or ingredient lot and trace it forward to every customer who received it, or backward to every raw ingredient that went into it. The full traceability chain is documented and audit-ready. Most producers complete a mock recall in under 2 minutes.

Does NutriBoard meet CFIA traceability requirements?+

Yes. NutriBoard is designed to meet SFCR (Safe Food for Canadians Regulations) traceability requirements. It provides one-up, one-back traceability with full batch-level tracking, supplier lot identification, and customer shipment records.

What is a Preventive Control Plan (PCP)?+

A PCP is required under the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR). It documents your facility, hazard analysis, and the controls you have in place to prevent food safety issues. NutriBoard helps you build and maintain your PCP digitally with built-in templates.

Does NutriBoard support PCP and hazard analysis?+

Yes. NutriBoard includes full preventive control plan support: facility management (SFC license, brand names, responsible person), hazard analysis across biological, chemical, physical, and allergen categories with risk scoring (likelihood x severity), CCP and preventive controls, CFIA-ready templates, and daily activity logs for cleaning, temperatures, allergen swabs, and pest control.

What are activity logs?+

Activity logs are daily operational checks you record in NutriBoard: cleaning verification, temperature monitoring, allergen swabs, pest control, and more. Logs auto-lock after 24 hours to maintain audit integrity. Your full activity history is available for CFIA inspections.
